The Story of the Cross of Saint Brigid

“I would like the angels of Heaven to be among us. I would like an abundance of peace. I would like full vessels of charity. I would like rich treasures of mercy. I would like cheerfulness to preside over all.”

Saint Brigid of Kildare
Brigid’s Crosses woven from the rush of the Shannon River, just as Saint Brigid herself did centuries ago. She used these crosses to teach about Christ and to give the people a symbol of protection for their home. Today in Ireland, these crosses are still made and hung in homes on her Feast Day, February 1.

Icon of Saint Brigid showing her three great symbols…her cross, her perpetual fire at Kildare and her staff, a symbol of her authority as spiritual leader and founder/abbess of her convent.

Saint Brigid of Kildare, also known as Saint Brigid of Ireland, is one of the three main patrons of Ireland. She is revered among Catholics, Anglicans, Orthodox, Traditional Spiritualist Religions and as a symbol of Female Leadership and Strength in the early church. Her cross is a symbol of Divine Protection; her fire is a symbol of the Eternal Spirit; her staff is a symbol of Spiritual Authority.
